A national non-profit organization working as an advocate for healthy and diverse ocean ecosystems. The website contains information on their research and educational programs, a Washington Watch, action alerts, and information on specific sea creatures. A good overall look at conservation efforts.
Blue Ocean Institute: www.blueocean.org
A conservation organization that uses science, art, and literature to "inspire a closer relationship to the sea and devise practical solutions to conservation problems." The website includes a guide to sustainable seafood choices, an art and literature journal, an image library, and links to full-text articles, talks, and book chapters.
Natural Resources Defense Council: www.nrdc.org
One of the nation's most effective environmental action groups. The website includes sections on Clean Water & Oceans and Wildlife & Fish where you can find brief and in-depth full-text articles on many issues.
The Ocean Project: www.theoceanproject.org
An international network of aquariums, zoos, museums, and conservation organizations that seeks to raise awareness of ocean conservation issues. The Ocean Resource Center area of the website lists news, websites, books, scientific literature, images, and educational resources. The Seas the Day initiative highlights a different issue each month and is a good introduction.
